How to Apply Lip Stain

Tired of checking your lipstick from time to time? Use lip stain instead. It's smudge proof––and waterproof! Depending on the brand, it could last from 2 to 6 hours and it comes in a range of colors, ensuring that you can always find one for the lip color you desire.
By using lip stain, your lips will look full and feel smooth. So, if you want to have that naturally bitten-lip look, simply follow these easy steps. Don't be surprised to get stares not just from men but also from women who wish they had lips like yours.

EditSteps

  1. 1
Choose a lip stain application style. Select the method that will fit your need.

    • Lip stain can come in a bottle with an applicator, in a small jar (you can use your fingers or a brush for applying), in gel pumps and as a marker tip.
  2. 2
Choose your lip color. This is a very important step that shouldn't be missed. Usually, women with darker tones look best in rich shades like deep red, while women with light skin tone prefer pink and orange shades. Ultimately though, it's your choice and if you're not sure, you can always test different colors until you find the one that works best for you.

  3. 3
Exfoliate your lips. Gently rub your lips using a wet toothbrush or a small damp washcloth to get rid of the dead skin. Lip stain will apply better when the lips are smooth and bare.

  4. 4
Use a lip balm to moisturize your lips. Make sure you let it sit on your lips for a while to get fully absorbed. If there's any excess balm left, gently blot it out.

  5. 5
Use a lip liner. If you want more natural-looking lips, you can skip this step.

  6. 6
Apply the lip stain on your upper lip first. Start from the center of the lip and work your way out towards the corner. Do this on both sides. Make sure to apply the stain in even layers and it's best to go in one direction only, not back and forth. Be very careful not to go beyond your lips or you will have blemish outside your lips and that will be hard to remove.

  7. 7
Repeat the process for the lower lip.

  8. 8
Blend the lip stain by using your finger or a lip brush. For better result, blending should be done going in one direction only just like the lip stain application. Keep in mind that the lip stain will dry very fast so you have to finish the blending process as quickly as you can.

  9. 9
Add another layer or layers of lip stain if you want more color depth for your lips.

  10. 10
Let the lip stain sit for a while until it fully dries.

  11. 11
Apply lip balm to neutralize the drying effects of the lip stain, if you think it's necessary.

  12. 12
Add lip gloss for a shiny finish.

  13. 13
    Finished.

EditTips

  • Store the lip stain bottle upside down for easier flow.
  • Use makeup remover to remove lip stain.
  • When testing for a lip color in the mall or in a public place, do not apply the product directly to your lips. Try it on your wrist or the side of your hand instead.

EditWarnings

  • The color of the lip stain when applied is not always the same as the product color.
